Adventures Down Under… But where’s the Camper?

LOOK OUT! Adventures Coming Down Under

OK, guys, I know this is a campervan blog, but campervanning is all about getting out there into the big wide world and having a few adventures, right?

So I thought some of you might be interested to know about Steve & my travels in Australia back in October – even if they weren’t in a campervan!

Last summer, we decided it was about time we took a decent bit of time off. We’d uhmed and ahhed over the past few years about going to Oz to visit friends & family there, so now it was time to get our act together and book a flight.

We went for a month, all told, and if you want to see some of what we got up to, here’s a snap I took of  Steve feeding the camels on my sister’s farm (I’ve left out the spider pix for now!)

The minute we hit the airport, I began scribbling in my notebook and, by the end of our time in Australia, it was full to bursting with adventures & reflections from our travels. So it won’t surprise you that all this gadding about has inspired a new book which is planned for release some time this year.

Here’s the cover and a link to find out more. If you wish, you can also sign up to get New Release news so that you’ll hear when the book is released…

The Jacaranda Trail - ebook & paperback cover

My earlier travel book set in Australia is called The Jacaranda Trail. In a nutshell, it’s the story of a journey I made to my Australian birthplace back when I was in my twenties.

I stayed Down Under for five years & got much more than I bargained for, that’s for sure!

Discovering I had another sister… Living on a camel farm… Picnicking with kookaburras… And City Farming, to name a few things. I also found my long-lost grandmother who had left my mother in an orphanage from an early age.

I’m now about half way through a first draft of Up a Creek Down Under, so look out for more news on that as we near completion.

Meantime, I hope if you live in England, you’re not letting the weather get you down too much… Storms, wind, rain – and snow in some areas (chance for a bit of ‘Arctic campervanning’ for you tough nuts out there!)… In amongst it all, though, we usually get the odd sunny day, even if it is a bit nippy.

If you enjoyed reading the blog today, why not comment to say so below. Or maybe it’s sparked off some travel memories of your own Down Under!?

Anyway, take care, and I’ll be in touch again when I have more news.

All the best!

YouTube Capers

Now that the Campervan Capers book (and its ‘side-kick’ travel tale, The Welsh Leek Conspiracy) are published & online for sale with Smashwords, it’s time to move ahead and get the work publicised…

Having never put together a video, I thought that publicity route would be far too great a task for me…  But then inspiration hit one day, and I decided to see if I could come up with a basic video that would still look professional enough for the job.

To my surprise, within a short space of time, I somehow managed to put together some of our travel photos, learn the fundamentals of Window Movie Maker, rustle up a backing track and work out how to get a decent enough recording to accompany the video.  (I might be a one-fingered wonder when it comes to the keyboards, but being four-chord wonders never put Status Quo off!)

I’m now pleased to let you know that you can check out the spoils of my labours (of love) on my new YouTube channel, Foley’s Forum Videos.  So far, there’s a ‘promo’ video for the Campervan Capers book as well as The Welsh Leek Conspiracy.  Click on the links to view.

Publicising your work is amazingly time-consuming.  In fact, it’s a wonder I get to write anything at all at the moment!  Even so, putting together a few videos has kept my creative juices flowing, and it’s nice to do something a bit different after working on my books for the past several months.

In any case, if you feel inspired to help me spread the word about my work, the videos let you share them with friends & family as well as ‘like’ them.  I appreciate all the support, positive comments & blog ‘likes’ I’ve had over past months and hope you continue to gain some enjoyment from what I have to share.

COMING SOON…

Now that the videos are online, I’ll be working on Campervan Capers 2, which my regular readers will be aware is a free handy downloadable sequel to the original book, based on the 2011 entries from the Campervan Capers blog.

And, of course, you can look forward to a few more entries on the blog…  Some of you will be wondering where on Earth the next instalment of Steve’s Cycle Shorts is…  You know, the one about the Tour of Flanders…?  Well, it’s still on its way, and all I can do is apologise…  At this time of year, Steve’s constantly busy with training, races and more training, so is a hard one to pin down to get anything written.  Such is the life of a Cycling Widow!

Happy YouTubing!

Photos – New Section on Blog

Are you one of those folk who’ve enjoyed the photos on the Campervan Capers blog?

Since starting the blog last year, I’ve had several comments from readers saying they’ve enjoyed the photos that accompany our stories

So I’ve decided to put together a brand new section with a selection of our travel photos, presented as collages.  Click the link to see the new Photo Tab on the blog.

If the collages leave you wanting more, then you can always check out the Campervan Capers photos on Flickr.  These illustrate the stories in the Campervan Capers blog as well as my recently-published Campervan Capers book, and more will be added as time goes on.

If you missed out on the blog about the Campervan Capers book, why not click on the link and check it out.  You can currently read 20% of the book for free on Smashwords.

In addition, I’ve released The Welsh Leek Conspiracy, a light-hearted travel tale adapted from the book, as a free download.

All my work is available on Smashwords in a variety of digital formats – for eReaders, home printing or computer screen reading.  For more info, visit my Smashwords Author Page or the Foley’s Forum website.

HOPE YOU ENJOY THE PHOTOS!
